The word Advent means “coming.” During Advent, we remember Jesus’ first coming and prepare our hearts for Him to return someday. Throughout the Bible, we see the unfolding of God’s big picture plan to bring a Rescuer–Jesus–and in today’s passage we learn about the birth of John the Baptist, sent to prepare the way for Jesus, the Rescuer.
