Serving Role: Small Group Leader

Description: Do you want to be used by God as He transforms a middle schooler’s life? By serving as a small group leader you can help middle schoolers know who God is and how to follow Jesus daily. Students need as many positive voices in their life as they can get. Students don’t need a larger than life leader. They need a leader who follows Jesus and cares about their life.

High School Ministry (Refuge)

Serving Role: R.E.P.S. (Refuge Event Parent Support)

Description: It’s our firm belief that high school students must have healthy relationships with adult believers. How else will they reach maturity in Christ if adults aren’t modeling it? This role puts adults (grandparents to young adults) in close proximity to high school students for the purpose of building relationships.

Commitment: Once a month commitment on Wednesday nights from 7-9:30pm; year long commitment. Just asking that you come, be yourself, and love high school students.

Description: If there were a front line for ministry to high school students this would be it! This role is for individuals who love high school students and want to spend the year ministering to them in a close, life on life way. You would be serving on a team, leading a small group, and playing an active role in campus ministry.

Commitment: Wednesday nights from 6-9:30pm; every other Sunday from 9:30-11:30am (leader training); Camps (Avalanche, Great Escape, Harrah, Leadership retreat); small groups and “contact work.” One year commitment.

Description: If you have ever been in a men’s group, you know how powerful it can be in a man’s life. If you feel called to disciple and shepherd men, and are willing to make a commitment, this can be a very fulfilling experience for you.

Compassionate Care

Ministry Name: Homeless Outreach

Serving Role: Team Leader

Description: Leads a team that serves the homeless in downtown Portland. We coordinate with Liberation Street Church and use their facilities located at the corner of SW 2nd and W Burnside. Cook soups and hot dogs, make sandwiches and try to demonstrate God’s kindness to this hurting group of people. Commitment: Lead a team every other month on the third Saturday of that month.

Commitment: Deliver either the Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving and again the Monday or Tuesday before the kids are out for Christmas vacation.

Description: Assist people with selecting tags to choose on Sunday mornings, rearranging tags so they are easy to see and accepting gifts as they come in. This volunteer should also be familiar with the Giving Tree concept and items we are asking for.

Description: The Mercy team manages the Beyond the Tithe Funds and comes alongside those in our body who are in need. This individual must be good with finances and willing to help individuals to create budget; able to assess real needs versus felt needs; and work to help the individuals holistically. Team members must be able to communicate and listen very well and work with other team members to make recommendations for assistance.

Description: This ministry exists to make people feel welcomed into our church. There is an expression “church home.” The hospitality ministry is one of the ways that we make people feel at home. This servant prepares coffee and places out cookies on Sunday AM.

Ministry Name: Front Door Ministry

Serving Role: Greeter, Hub Team Member

Description: The first five minutes at church are crucial to a visitor’s experience. Decisions are usually made in these first five minutes at the church as to whether the visitor will return. Two primary objectives of this ministry are to make people feel welcome and assist visitors. Arrive 30 minutes before the service begins. Greeters hand out bulletins, welcome and direct visitors. Hub team members are available to answer questions and provide information.

Commitment: One Sunday AM Service per month and on an occasional special event.

Ministry Name: Watchmen – The Ushers of Summit View Church

Serving Role: Watchman (Usher)

Description: These men have two primary functions: watchmen and hosts. The goal of the Ushers is to oversee the Sunday morning gatherings to help provide a seamless environment of worship. They provide security and assist visitors; assist the pastoral team in preparing the environment; collect tithes and offerings. Arrive 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the service.

Commitment: One to two Sundays per month and an occasional special event; attends both services on his designated Sunday. (The week they serve is always the same Sunday.)

CARE Groups

Serving Role: CARE Group Leader

Description: These men and women shepherd a small group of individuals. Summit View Church believes that the best environment to grow spiritually is in relational discipleship.  A CARE group leader is instrumental in helping people become transformed into the likeness of Jesus. The CARE Leader invests into the lives of their people.

Commitment: CARE groups meet at least every two weeks, weekly during alignment series; a commitment of at least one year.
