CARE Groups

Create A Relational Environment
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.
- Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT

For Spiritual Growth
...until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of His body, the church. ...so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
- Ephesians 4:11-16 NLT

For the Glory of God
So all of us [Christ-followers]...can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord….makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image.
- 2 Corinthians 3:18 NLT

A CARE Group is our method of Creating A Relational Environment for spiritual growth ...

In CARE groups, you will find friendship, support, and encouragement from the other members of your group. Through studying God's Word, you will learn how God has designed us to live and grow together.

Looking for a place to really get connected? How about a place to develop new friendships where you grow together in your relationship with God? One of our CARE Groups could be the place for you. We at Summit View Church, believe that the best environment to grow spiritually is in a smaller more relational environments. We currently have over 40 groups meeting on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to grow together toward maturity in Christ. In this small group setting, we spend time developing true friendships and discussing sermons or studying God’s Word. We then look to apply what we’ve learned to our daily lives.

Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ. - Acts 5:42 NIV

Mission of CARE Groups

To connect and grow people in Christ through relational environments

What are relational environments for spiritual growth?

Any environment where two or more are gathered with the intention of growing in intimacy with one another and with Christ is a relational environment for spiritual growth.

What are some groups that are considered relational environments?

  • Accountability groups
  • Bible Studies
  • Discipleship groups
  • Fellowship groups with spiritual emphasis
  • Mentoring
  • Recovery groups
  • Support groups

What is the goal behind emphasizing CARE Groups for spiritual growth?

Our goal is to create disciples of Jesus Christ. In May of 2006, the Elders went away to a conference in Idaho where some 40 churches participated. What we walked away with from the conference was that God was calling us to create disciples of Jesus Christ and the best atmosphere for discipleship was in relational environments.

What is a disciple of Jesus Christ?

If you asked ten believers that question you would probably get ten similar but different answers. The one I like the best is a disciple is an adherent of Christ. A disciple is someone who adheres, who sticks to Jesus Christ. Someone who passionately seeks out Jesus and strives to live out His teachings.

Mark 12:30-31, The Great Commandment, states, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

Matthew 28:19, The Great Commission, states “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

The Great Commandment + The Great Commission = Disciples for Christ

We believe three elements are vital to creating disciples: Biblical Foundation, Relational Environment, and a Discipleship Process. All three are vital and must be present to change lives for Christ effectively.

Why do this?

  • Effective learning and discipleship takes place in small groups
  • Small groups create a more intimate environment
  • Jesus modeled the use of small groups in His ministry with the twelve and the three
  • The early church modeled this as the best environment to disciple in Acts 2:42
  • We are called to "go" and make disciples not wait for them in Matthew 28:19. This is our way of following God's call and going
  • People crave to be a part of something and crave connectedness

How we know we succeeded?

  • If people are being more Christ-like…
  • If people are able to get plugged into CARE groups…
  • If the number of people involved in CARE groups increases...
  • If new groups and leaders are being launched…
  • If groups shift to discipleship as a big part of their reason for meeting…
  • If people are being won for Christ…

…we will know we have succeeded.
